One-Child-at-a-Time

The Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area has started a new project under the title of ‘One-Child-at-a-Time’ with the goal of meeting the needs of individual children in our local area middle and high schools.

This project developed over a period of time as Cathi Litcher maintained dialogue with those involved in our Builders Clubs, Key Club and the school counselors and social workers at our local schools.

From the school counselors, Cathi learned of heart-rendering stories of individual students who were suffering from the lack of personal necessities, adequate clothing, money for school lunch, and other personal issues in which a little financial support would go a long way toward ameliorating the student’s issue.

Club Gets Involved

The Club Board of Directors upon hearing this really distressing situation at our schools decided to step in and make a financial donation of $2,500 for the FY2019-2020 year. The funds to be used on an individual basis as Cathi and the school counselors consider the most serious student situations, first.

Once a student has been selected, Cathi steps in to provide the needed item or meal payment plan to the school in the student’s name. In early 2020, the project helped a number of students with needed items in both the Surf City and Dixon Schools. When the item is given to the student by the social worker they are made aware that the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area donated the item or support.

Please contribute to Kiwanis with your donation so that we can continue this program for ‘One Child at a Time.’
