SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES

On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, our club initiated an Aktion Club to serve the needs of young adults with disabilities in the Topsail Island Area. President Carrie Hewitt (lf) led the initiation ceremony assisted by Diane Cavanagh, who is the Aktion Club Leader (second from rt).

Who joins Aktion Club?

Members of Aktion Club are people who want to serve and improve their communities. They’re energetic, they’re dedicated—they’re adults with disabilities who are passionate about making a difference in the world.
With Aktion Club, they’re discovering their heart to serve, answering their call to lead and igniting the courage it takes to build relationships. They step forward when others stand still. As a result, their communities grow stronger. Thanks to Aktion Club. And thanks to people like you.

Why it works

Like anyone with a desire to serve others, adults with disabilities want to be an integral part of their communities. For the program’s nearly 12,000 members, Aktion Club makes it happen.
Each club is an independent entity. Members work together to improve their communities. Their service also increases visibility and respect for adults with disabilities. In fact, it does the same for the clubs and organizations whose members serve as advisors. The program is designed to fit member and volunteer interests.

It’s member-led.
Aktion Club is uniquely built on an important principle: Amazing things happen when the members take the lead.
It’s member-appropriate.
The program and its resources are designed specifically to help adults with disabilities get the most out of the club experience.
Your needs matter.
In order to fit the needs of advisors, members and sponsors, each club determines its own meeting schedule, service projects and other activities.
You’re not alone.
Adult volunteers and staff at the regional and international levels are there to support each club’s success.
