Kick-Off of the 2020 Builders Club Holiday Food Drive

The attached pictures are the Kick-Off of the 2020 Builders Club Holiday Food Drive.  During the meeting, the members decorated the boxes to place in the front entrance of the school.  In the left picture, the members completed a student-led script and video to play during the entire school morning meeting on the classroom t.v.’s.  Each day the members emptied the boxes, counted the food items donated, and stored them in the office. At the end of the two weeks competition, there were over 1,200 food items donated!  The members boxed all the donations, loaded them in a few parent’s trucks and the items were dropped off on the island at the All Saints Catholic Church for the Christmas Holiday Assistance Program (CHAPS).

During a club meeting, the members sorted donated clothing and bagged it up to take to Pender Christian Services near Burgaw.

During a DMS Spring School Dance, Builders Club members served slices of pizza to and raised over $300 for the school club to purchase member t-shirts to participate as a group in the Out of Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk in Surf City, NC.

Ms. Farmer and Ms. Litcher submitted a Pender Education Partnership grant application on behalf of the school to assist in creating an outdoor space for the faculty, teachers and students to learn in the courtyard.  The grant was funded and wooden picnic tables and teal plastic chairs were purchased along with some potting containers for flowers and plants.

The Builders Club members painted the picnic tables.  In early spring, to spruce things up in the courtyard, one of our meetings we went outside to update the flower containers, used sandpaper to smooth splintered areas on the picnic tables and used our tools to tighten the picnic table seating.
